Windmill

Open-source platform to turn scripts into internal apps & workflows

Hiring — 4 openYC-S22B2B -> InfrastructureEarly

What Windmill does

Windmill is an open-source developer platform that turns scripts into workflows, internal tools, and full-stack apps. Write scripts in Python, TypeScript, Go, Bash, Rust, SQL - Windmill auto-generates UIs from their parameters, handles dependencies, credentials, permissions, and scheduling so you focus on business logic, not infra. Open-source alternative to Airflow, Temporal, Retool and n8n. Chain scripts into flows with branching, parallelism, retries. Build dashboards with the app builder. Trigger via cron, webhook, or UI. All-in-one runtime, editor, secret manager, and OAuth platform - enterprise-ready out of the box. Stack: Rust / TypeScript + Svelte / PostgreSQL. Self-hostable, easy to deploy, built for performance and DX.

What the role involves

Own Windmill's growth - from developer awareness to self-serve activation to expansion. So far, 3M ARR has been built with zero outbound and reasonable marketing efforts - imagine what a dedicated growth person could do. This is a broad, high-autonomy role spanning developer marketing, community, content, and product-led growth. Content & developer marketing: write technical content (tutorials, comparisons, case studies) that developers actually want to read. SEO, social, community channels. Community: grow and engage the open-source community - Discord, GitHub, forums. Surface feedback, spotlight contributors. Product-led growth: improve onboarding, activation funnels, self-serve conversion. Work with product/engineering on growth experiments. Analytics: measure what works - traffic, signups, activation, expansion. Data-driven iteration. Who we're looking for Ideal candidate: you've already done growth / developer marketing for a devtool company and can point to concrete results - content that drove signups, community programs that scaled, funnels you optimized. That hands-on devtool growth experience is the single strongest signal for this role. Two profiles fit well: A software engineer who wants to branch out - you've built things, you speak the language, and you want to explore the DevRel / growth side while staying close to the product. A hacky non-engineer with a strong affinity for tech - you may not write production code, but you understand developer tools deeply, learn fast, and can credibly engage a technical audience. Either way: Proven devtool growth experience is strongly preferred. You've grown awareness, adoption, or revenue for a developer-facing product and can show what worked. You understand how developers evaluate tools, what content resonates with them, and how open-source adoption works. You can write clearly about technical topics - blog posts, docs, comparisons. Comfort with analytics, funnels, and experimentation. You don't just create content - you measure its impact. Scrappy and autonomous - this is an early-stage role with wide scope. 0–4 years of experience in growth, developer marketing, developer relations, or a technical role with a growth bent. Example projects in your first 3 months Write and ship a head-to-head comparison series (Windmill vs Airflow, Temporal, Retool, n8n) optimized for search Redesign the onboarding flow to get new signups to a running workflow in under 3 minutes - measure activation lift Launch a community showcase program - spotlight real customer use cases on blog, Discord, and social Build a self-serve analytics dashboard tracking the full funnel from landing page to paid conversion Run a targeted campaign around a major product launch - landing page, demo video, HN/Reddit/X distribution Offer details Location: Paris hybrid (~3 days/week) or remote within France Contract: CDI (permanent) Salary: €40K–€80K gross + 20% bonus on collective milestones Also open to: interns / young graduates (5–6 month internship, €2,000–3,000/month, strong CDI potential)

What the role involves

First dedicated sales hire. Build the outbound motion from the ground up on top of a product that already sells itself - $3M ARR with zero outbound to date. This is a 50/50 cold call and email sequencing role focused on getting the right people into demos or onto the open-source product. Hit your number in year one and you write the playbook for the next SDR, hire them, and grow into leading the team. What you'll do Outbound, every day. ~50% cold calls, ~50% email sequencing. Target platform teams, DevOps leads, and engineering managers at companies already using Windmill's open-source or evaluating it against competitors. Book the right meetings. Success is a booked demo with the actual stakeholders, or a qualified team starting an OSS evaluation with a clear path to commercial. Volume matters, but quality of account and seniority of contact matter more. Build the top of funnel from zero. Account lists, sequences, call scripts, objection handling, qualification criteria - none of this exists yet. You'll build it. Run competitive displacement. Identify accounts where we have developer champions using Windmill OSS against competitors and work them top-down. Set up the CRM and reporting. Deal stages, pipeline hygiene, conversion metrics from cold touch to booked meeting to qualified opportunity. Close the feedback loop. What objections come up on cold calls, which messages land in sequences, which segments respond - bring it back to product and marketing. Year one target: bookings that convert to $1M+ in new ARR. Hit it, and the next chapter is hiring and leading the SDR team - writing the playbook, ramping the next hire, and growing into the function lead. Who we're looking for Devtool / developer platform background is essential. You've prospected to or worked closely with engineering teams. You understand what developers care about, what "open-core" means, and how PLG and outbound coexist. Comfortable on the phone. This is a real cold-call job, not LinkedIn-only outbound. Half your day is dials. Strong technical fluency. You can read our docs, hold a credible conversation with a platform engineer, and know when to bring in an SE versus handle it yourself. 1–4 years in SDR/BDR, sales, or developer relations with a commercial angle at a B2B SaaS or devtool company. Founding-SDR experience or being the first outbound hire somewhere is a strong signal. Experience prospecting into large enterprise (public companies, Fortune 500) is a big plus. Our target buyers sit at companies with serious compliance, procurement, and security requirements. Scrappy, autonomous, comfortable building from zero. This is a founding role, not seat #25 in a 50-person SDR org. No SDR manager, no enablement team, no pre-built sequences - you build it. US experience strongly preferred - American applicants or candidates with extensive experience selling into US companies. The vast majority of our pipeline is US-based, which means US hours on the phone. Fluent in English; French or German is a plus for European accounts. Example projects in your first 3 months Build the outbound playbook targeting platform teams at mid-market and enterprise companies already running Windmill's open-source Run a focused competitive displacement campaign against incumbents at accounts where we have developer champions Set up the CRM, sequences, dashboards, and weekly pipeline reporting Book the first cohort of qualified demos that the founders close - learn the product and the buyer by feeding the top of the funnel Offer details Location: France or US Compensation: base (location-dependent) + commission on booked meetings that convert to closed revenue Growth path: hit year-one target → hire and lead the next SDRs → grow into SDR team lead

What the role involves

Work on Windmill's Rust backend - the execution engine, workers, language runtimes, API layer, and infrastructure that powers thousands of production deployments. Execution engine: scheduling, job queues, worker orchestration, flow execution with branching, parallelism, retries, and error handling. Language runtimes: maintain and extend sandboxed runtimes for Python, TypeScript, Go, Bash, SQL, and more. Performance & reliability: profiling, optimization, resource management. Our users run mission-critical workloads - correctness and uptime matter. Infrastructure: PostgreSQL schema design, caching, networking, deployment tooling. Who we're looking for This is a senior role. We're looking for someone who has operated distributed systems at scale and can teach us from day one - showing us PostgreSQL patterns, distributed systems techniques, and architectural improvements we haven't considered yet. Proven experience building and operating distributed systems at scale - not theoretical, you've done it in production Deep PostgreSQL expertise - query optimization, schema design, concurrency control, partitioning, replication. You know what breaks at scale and how to fix it. Strong systems programming skills - Rust experience strongly preferred, otherwise C/C++ with willingness to switch You bring opinions and techniques from previous infrastructure work that will make Windmill better immediately You enjoy hard infrastructure problems and care about correctness Example projects in your first 3 months Redesign the job queue to handle bursty workloads with thousands of concurrent jobs without degrading scheduling latency Implement a new worker orchestration strategy that improves resource utilization across heterogeneous deployments (2 to 600 workers) Optimize critical PostgreSQL queries and schema for customers with millions of completed jobs - partitioning, indexing, vacuum tuning Add a new language runtime (e.g., Java, C#) with proper sandboxing, dependency management, and execution feedback Build observability tooling - distributed tracing across the flow execution engine to diagnose slow or failing steps in production Offer details Location: Paris hybrid (~3 days/week) or remote within France Contract: Full-time / CDI Salary: €60K–€90K gross + top of market for level + 20% bonus on collective milestones

What the role involves

Product Software Engineer Build and ship the Windmill product end-to-end. The core challenge of building a developer platform: make it a delightful, intuitive experience while keeping the depth and power that developers expect. And increasingly, make Windmill the best place to author, run, observe, and debug AI-powered workflows and agents. For example, Windmill parses your code to extract dependencies in Python/TypeScript, generates a lockfile, and extracts parameters from function signatures to auto-generate a UI, letting developers focus on the code that matters while handling all the boilerplate, with escape hatches for manual control. The same philosophy now extends to AI: turning an LLM call, a set of tools, a prompt, and a skill into a production-grade agent step should feel as natural as defining a function. All of that while being the fastest workflow engine on the market. You'll work across the full stack, owning features from design to production: The editors. Build and refine Windmill's script editor, flow editor, app editor, raw app editor, and pipeline editor in Svelte / TypeScript. These are the heart of the product. Obsess over developer experience. AI inside the editors. The AI surface in Windmill is not a side panel. It is woven into how scripts get written, flows get built, apps get scaffolded, pipelines get debugged. You'll design and ship that integration: inline code generation, agent steps in flows, skill authoring, tool pickers, structured outputs, streaming responses, error recovery, trace inspection, evals you can actually look at and act on. Agentic systems. Work on Windmill's custom agentic loop (planning, tool use, retrieval, self-correction) and the UX wrapped around it. The agent loop and the interface around it are the same product. Backend integration. Wire frontend features to the Rust backend. APIs, real-time execution feedback, state management, SSE streaming, multipart, all the plumbing. Product sense. Talk to users, read feedback, spot friction. Ship what matters, cut what doesn't. Full ownership. Spec, design, implement, ship, iterate. Small team, no handoffs. Example projects in your first 3 months Real items from our roadmap. You'd take on the ones that fit your strengths, not all of them. Redesign the flow editor's agent step: prompt editing, tool picker, structured output schemas, inline trace inspection, branching from any step in a past trace Rebuild the script editor's AI assist so it does multi-file edits, diff previews, test-driven iteration, and recovery from failed runs, all without leaving the editor Extend the AI agent to the local dev surface: edit synced scripts and flows from the VS Code extension, run iterations from the CLI, with the same trace, skill, and eval visibility as in the web IDE Build the UI for authoring and evaluating skills: write the skill, run it against a task corpus, see pass rates per task, diff between prompt/model versions, promote to production Ship a "from prompt to deployed workflow" experience: natural language in, scaffolded flow plus schema plus app plus permissions out, with the user able to steer mid-generation Rebuild the app editor and raw app editor's component system so users can compose reusable, parameterized UI blocks, including AI-driven components (forms generated from a prompt, dashboards generated from a query) Redesign the script editor's dependency management: auto-detect imports, inline version pinning, lockfile preview Build a real-time collaboration layer for the editors so multiple users (and an agent) can edit the same workspace simultaneously Improve the pipeline editor and scheduling UI: cron builder, execution history timeline, alerting configuration, all from a single view Who we're looking for We want someone genuinely excellent in their area, not "okay" at everything. The most useful person on a small team is the one who is the best in the room at the thing they care about, and curious enough to learn the rest on t
