What the role involves
Opportunity: Epinoma is hiring a scientist to contribute to R&D projects. Our team designs and develops next-generation DNA binding proteins able to recognize distinct epigenetic signatures. The successful candidate will work on protein engineering to identify and characterize top performing variants for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Responsibilities Plan, design, and synthesize protein libraries Work with the team to develop biochemical assays characterizing protein libraries for diagnostic and therapeutic applications Lead and execute process development to optimize protein expression in different scales Author technical reports, SOPs, batch records and technology transfer documents; contribute to scientific documentation of patent applications and subsequent internal and external presentation and/or publication of new technologies Support lab operations through management of lab equipment; support development of lab capabilities through analysis of lab operations and capital management. Lead acquisition of new lab equipment as needed including assessing requirements and developing proposals. Train and oversee junior colleagues with respect to lab activities Qualifications Ph.D in protein engineering, molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related fields Previous experience to design and execute protein engineering methods such as rational design and directed evolution Previous experience with recombinant protein expression and purification Strong desire to learn new techniques, willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team, and be productive in a fast-paced start-up environment Recommended Prior experience characterizing protein-DNA interactions (EMSA, Fluorescent polarization, SPR, etc) Prior experience working with epigenetics Prior experience working with mammalian cell protein expression and purification Knowledge of statistical design of experiments, as well as data analysis using JMP or other statistical package is desired Company Values Boldness - We take courageous stances to explore new scientific and clinical challenges. What the role involves
Responsibilities Doing routine cell culture to maintain different cell lines, primary cells, etc. Conducting transfection, transduction and nucleofection to introduce genes of interest into cell lines. Doing basic imaging and flow cytometry to analyze expression. Creating Cell line stocks and maintaining a record. Creating and maintaining a meticulous record of plasmid/bacterial stocks. Plasmid isolation, bacterial culture and maintenance. Conduct cloning of genes of interest, regulatory elements, and vector components using various methods and requirements for quality control and accuracy. Maintain detailed and organized records of experimental conditions, vector analysis, bacterial stocks, project data, and results. Contribute to the analysis of technical data and adaptation and improvement of routine methods. Operate, maintain, and clean equipment, maintain/order supplies, and manage waste. Maintain timely and detailed entries into an electronic notebook and database. Assist in refinement and development of company SOPs. [Senior RA Only] Independently design experimental plans with some supervision of research scientists. [Senior RA Only] Coordinate and delegate tasks for Research Associate I. Qualifications Bachelors or Masters of Science [Senior RA Only] in Cellular Biology or related field. New graduates with at least 6 months of relevant lab experience are welcome to apply. Basic experience in Tissue culture and cell line maintenance. Proficiency in PCR methods, DNA Binding, Western Blotting, ELISA, ChIP, immunostaining, and multiplexed protein assays. Experience with different cloning methods is desirable. Able to work independently with minimal supervision. Collaborative attitude with eagerness to learn. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as pipetting and standing for long periods (2-4 hours). Ability to read small text and labels. Maintain a flexible schedule with the ability to work weekends Recommended Familiarity with working in a fast-paced startup environment Experience working with cell lines Experience with flow cytometry or imaging. Familiarity with handling hazardous substances including liquid nitrogen and biohazards such as bodily fluids.
