Future Founder - Engineering
New York, NY, USFull-time1+ years$125 - $1752.00% equityVisa: US citizen/visa only
What the role involves

Cotera is looking to hire a future founder, specifically on the engineering side. Ideally, you’d have this job for two years and either run an entire engineering/product org here, or leave with a seed check from our team to go start your own company. We’re looking for someone who wants a lot of ownership, a lot of reps, and a front-row seat to how a company gets built - not just technically, but commercially. You’ll work closely with the CEO and engineering team to build, ship, and iterate on the product as we grow. Ideally, these are your qualifications: Curious and hungry: You’re early in your professional journey and might not know exactly what you want your career to look like 20 years from today, but you’re motivated to try different things to find out. You want to learn fast, ship fast, and get exposed to the real mechanics of building a company. Not afraid: A lot of people in their early career are afraid of failure. This is doubly true if you’ve only ever succeeded at things. You’re going to mess things up. Things won’t pan out. You’ll ship stuff that needs to be rewritten. That’s fine. Not doing things because you’re afraid of failure is not fine. Technically strong: You should be able to build. We don’t need you to have 10 years of experience, but we do need you to be dangerous — someone who can take an ambiguous problem and turn it into working software. You should be comfortable learning whatever you need to learn to get the thing shipped. AI-native / AI-curious: You get a 5x weighting if you’re using AI tools to code, debug, prototype, analyze, or generally move faster. You might not know exactly how they work internally, but they’re working externally for you. We care a lot about people who can use new tools to increase their own output. Product-minded: You don’t just want to close tickets. You care about what users need, why something matters, and whether what you built actually solves the problem. You’re interested in the full loop: talk to customers, understand pain, build something, ship it, see if it worked, repeat. You want to be a founder: You want to learn the ins and outs of building a company. Building the house is the easy part now — you can do it from your phone, in a weekend. The hard part is building something people actually want, getting it in front of them, and making it important enough that they pay for it. That’s what you want reps at. Here’s what you’ll be doing: - Building product directly with the engineering team. - Working closely with Ibby, our CEO, on high-priority product and customer problems. - Turning ambiguous customer needs into shipped features. - Prototyping quickly, testing ideas, and iterating based on feedback. - Using AI tools aggressively to move faster. - Helping us build systems that make customers happy and successful. - Sitting close to GTM, customers, and product strategy — not just code. - Taking ownership of projects end-to-end, from idea to implementation to impact. We understand our market, and we’ve developed a product that makes customers happy and successful. We want your help making that product dramatically better, faster, and more scalable. You’ll be outcomes driven. We’ll give you real business and product goals, and you’ll be in charge of helping meet them. Compensation $135K–$200K salary + significant equity.
