CommodityAI
The AI operating system for commodity operations
What CommodityAI does
CommodityAI builds intelligent automation agents for some of the most operationally complex businesses in the world: physical commodity traders. In trading operations, critical data is often buried in spreadsheets, emails, PDFs, and legacy systems — making workflows slow, error-prone, and overly manual. CommodityAI acts as a digital operator, continuously reading, interpreting, and updating information across the trade lifecycle to keep records accurate and systems in sync. Our agents extract and validate key details from trade confirmations, contracts, vessel updates, and more — turning scattered, unstructured data into clean, structured records that flow directly into CTRMs, ERPs, and other core platforms. No manual entry required. By automating what others still do by hand, we help trading teams move faster, reduce risk, and focus on the decisions that matter most.

What the role involves
About CommodityAI CommodityAI is building AI that automates workflows in one of the world’s most operationally complex industries—commodities. These are the companies that move the resources our world runs on: the grains that feed us, the metals that build our cities, and the energy that powers everything in between. Behind every trade and shipment, however, critical data lives in emails, PDFs, and legacy systems, slowing operations, increasing errors, and tying up teams in manual work. CommodityAI is a digital operator for the physical commodities world. It continuously interprets unstructured data, reconciles with the system of record, and flags issues in real time, giving teams greater clarity across every transaction. We are redefining how commodity businesses execute by embedding intelligence into their daily workflows, helping them manage risk, streamline post-trade execution, and move the world’s resources with greater control and accuracy. CommodityAI is building intelligence and automation at the foundation of global trade. About the Role As a Forward Deployed Engineer at CommodityAI, you will own the technical delivery of customer deployments from the handoff from sales through stable production. You will work directly with commodity traders, operators, and C-suite stakeholders to understand how their operations run, define what needs to be automated, and guide adoption of CommodityAI. You will lead implementations where accuracy matters and requirements are often incomplete. You will turn ambiguous customer problems into clear, reliable automations. You will tune AI agents, shape structured data for downstream systems, and embed with customer teams to understand their operations. You will stay in close communication with customers, keep work unblocked, and resolve gaps quickly. This role blends engineering, product, and customer-facing problem solving. You will be among the first 10 employees and will operate with a high degree of ownership, navigate ambiguity confidently, and keep projects moving with clear communication and operational discipline. In this role you will Own technical delivery across multiple deployments from first prototype to stable production Build and customize our AI agents and reasoning workflows to fit each customer’s data and operational logic Translate customer requirements into clear, reliable automations in CommodityAI Embed yourself within customer teams, understand their needs, and guide adoption of what you build Lead customer calls throughout deployment, covering requirements clarification, progress updates, and user training Communicate technical details clearly with our users: traders, schedulers, operators, and logistics teams Manage data flows through CommodityAI’s standard integrations with customer systems Keep customer projects moving with clear communication, steady follow-through, and attention to detail Make trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality; adjust plans to protect delivery Turn working patterns into reusable playbooks, templates, and configuration standards You might thrive in this role if you Bring 3+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience that includes customer-facing work Write and review production-grade code across frontend and backend using Python, Typescript, or comparable stacks Are energized by solving hard problems in operational industries underserved by modern software Have worked with enterprise customers and can manage the expectations, rigor, and structure required to support them Have built or deployed systems powered by LLMs or generative models and understand how model behavior affects product experience Simplify complexity and make fast, sound decisions under pressure Communicate and present clearly with engineers, product teams, and customer stakeholders Model calm and judgment when the stakes are high This role is based in San Francisco. What the role involves
What We Do & What We Are Doing Now CommodityAI is building the operating system for the global commodities industry—the foundational sector responsible for moving the world's energy, metals, and agricultural resources. Today, our platform actively manages billions of dollars of commercial contracts. Behind every physical trade and shipment lies an incredibly complex layer of manual operations, with critical data trapped in unstructured emails, PDFs, and legacy software. CommodityAI serves as a digital operator that continuously interprets trade data, reconciles physical movements, and flags operational risks in real time. We are a Y Combinator-backed company (W24) supported by top-tier investors, including Rebel Fund and the founders of YouTube and Reddit. We are currently scaling our engineering team in San Francisco to expand our platform's capabilities, handle rapidly growing transaction volumes, and deepen our intelligent automation workflows. What You’ll Do As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own core technical pillars of our operating system, working directly with the founders to scale our infrastructure and AI capabilities. Build Core Systems: Design, scale, and maintain the backend APIs and data pipelines that process billions of dollars in transaction value. Deploy Production AI/LLM Workflows: Architect agentic systems, structured extraction pipelines, and evaluation frameworks that turn chaotic, real-world documents into deterministic data. Full-Stack Execution: Work across our stack (React, TypeScript, Python, Go, Node) to deliver end-to-end features, from robust data orchestration to clean frontend user workflows. Own Product Outcomes: Collaborate with customers and the founding team to understand complex logistical problems and translate them into reliable, production-ready software. Who You Are We are looking for a senior- or staff-level engineer with a strong track record in fast-paced startup environments who prefers context over control and operates with a high degree of agency. 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally as an early technical leader or core contributor at a high-growth startup. Hands-on experience with production AI: You have built and deployed LLM- or agent-based systems in real-world settings (specifically addressing structured outputs, retrieval, or orchestration). Strong technical judgment: You understand how to make pragmatic trade-offs between execution speed, system reliability, and long-term technical debt. End-to-end ownership: You take pride in owning projects from initial architecture through to implementation, deployment, and monitoring. Location: Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco for regular in-person collaboration. Benefits Competitive base salary Meaningful early-stage equity Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance A high-trust, low-bureaucracy environment where you have a direct seat at the table
