What Elayne does
Elayne is building the modern estate settlement platform. Estate settlement is a $250B+ annual market, with $80T+ in assets expected to transfer over the next 25 years. But after a death, families and executors have to spend 400+ hours manually identifying, organize, and distribute everything that was left behind like: financial accounts, debts, property, insurance, legal documents, incorporating juristidi ation requirements and family context. Elayne is the first platform to surface verified assets and debts for precisely this moment, then turing our discovery into a clear inheritance map. We work directly with families and executors, and with the partners who support them: funeral homes, hospice and aftercare providers, attorneys, and financial institutions. The company was founded by Adria, a former large-cap investor who experienced the problem firsthand, and Rebecca, a repeat fintech and mental health founder who left her master’s program in psychology at Harvard to launch Elayne. Together, they bring financial rigor, technical execution, and lived empathy to a massive but deeply human category. Backed by Y Combinator and Accel, we are now an 8-person team based in NYC.

What the role involves
The role Elayne is hiring a Visual Designer to bring our product and brand to life across every visual touchpoint. This is a hands-on design role for a creative generalist who wants real ownership: to define how a new category should look, move, and feel across all static and dynamic content. This is not a traditional graphic design role. It is also not a pure product design role or a brand strategy role. You will work across product visuals, website design, motion, marketing materials, print collateral, social assets, decks, and customer-facing education. This role will report to Head of Growth and work closely with product and company leadership. Because the role touches both brand and product surfaces, you’ll get to partner closely with the Lead Product Designer on in-product visuals, motion, and interactions. What you’ll build As Elayne’s Visual Designer, you will help build the visual system behind a new category of family, legal, and financial software. 1. A product visual layer that feels clear and trustworthy You will design the visual details that make Elayne easier to use: overlays, cards, empty states, onboarding graphics, icons, illustrations, diagrams, loading states, confirmation moments, and lightweight animations. 2. Motion and storytelling that bring the product to life You will create short animations, product walkthroughs, web interactions, social clips, and storyboards that make complex workflows easier to grasp. 3. A web presence that explains the product simply You will design website and landing page visuals that help families, partners, and customers quickly understand what Elayne does and why it matters. 4. A library of materials the company can use every day You will design flyers, postcards, one-pagers, pitch deck visuals, customer PDFs, email graphics, social assets, event materials, and reusable templates so the team can move faster without redesigning from scratch. Location and expectations This is a full-time role based with the team in New York City. We're a small, high-trust team working in a category that's complex, personal, and important. We move quickly, communicate directly, and hold a high bar for the experience we deliver. We care about outcomes more than process. The best work here comes from being close to the details: a confusing user moment, a sales gap, a customer question, a workflow that needs to be clearer. We expect people to pull in the right teammates and turn what they learn into better systems for everyone. We expect this person to use AI as leverage: exploring directions faster, prototyping interactions, generating rough concepts, speeding up production. AI should help you move faster, but the final work should still feel careful, intentional, and human. What you’ll bring 2–5+ years of experience in brand, visual, web, motion, or digital design A strong portfolio showing work across web, brand, marketing, and product-adjacent design Excellent Figma skills and comfort moving quickly from rough concept to finished asset Strong fundamentals in typography, layout, hierarchy, color, composition, and visual storytelling Comfort designing marketing and print materials, from one-pagers and decks to event collateral Strong attention to detail and the ability to keep work consistent across many surfaces What would make you stand out Familiarity with motion and graphics tools like After Effects, Jitter, Lottie, Rive, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Premiere Experience with motion, animation, and video: product walkthroughs, short-form social clips, web interactions, or lightweight animated assets Comfort designing for real web experiences in Framer or Webflow Ability to sketch, storyboard, or prototype ideas quickly before turning them into polished assets You use AI as leverage, already using creative and productivity tools to move faster and improve your work Compensation The expected salary range for this role is $90k to $120k annually, plus equity. This range represents a good-fait

What the role involves
About The Role We're looking for a Lead Product Designer to join our design team and own major parts of the product end to end. This is a seat for someone with the craft, taste, perspective, and judgment of a design leader as well as the instincts of a great teammate. You'll set direction for the surfaces you own rather than wait for a spec, and you'll raise the bar for everyone around you. You influence what to build, design it, and see it shipped. Why this role is different We're hiring a Lead Product Designer to own major parts of the product end to end. This is a seat for someone with the craft, perspective, and judgment of a design leader. You'll set direction for the surfaces you own rather than wait for a spec. You influence what to build, design it, and see it shipped. You should be meticulous about building simple flows out of incredibly complex processes: how one step connects to the next, what state the user is in at every point, where they get stuck, and what happens at each branch, handoff, and edge case. And you should be relentless about the user's voice: what a grieving family actually feels, where the process confuses or saddens them, and what they need to see in the hardest moments. This role works closely with Product, Engineering, and Growth. As we scale, it can grow into Head of Design. What you'll own As Elayne's Lead Product Designer, you will turn complex, emotionally loaded problems into product experiences families can trust. 1. End-to-end flows for the surfaces you own You will design complete journeys, not screens in isolation: the entry point, every branch and state, the error and edge cases, the empty states, and the handoffs to AI or human support. You own how it feels start to finish. 2. Trust around legal and financial complexity You will design how Elayne explains money, legal authority, and institutional process to people who are overwhelmed. You will decide what to surface, what to simplify, and how to make unfamiliar, high-stakes concepts feel safe and clear. 3. The role of AI in the experience You will define where AI should lead the user, where it should work quietly in the background, and where a human needs to be present. You will design the patterns that make automated help feel trustworthy rather than uncanny. 4. The system that lets quality scale Over time, you will build and steward the design language, components, and patterns that let Elayne grow without losing craft or consistency. You will raise the bar for how the whole team designs. What we're looking for 5 or more years designing and shipping product end to end, ideally for consumer or complex product surfaces where the experience, not just the interface, was your responsibility. Mastery of interaction and systems design. You think in flows, states, and edge cases, and you obsess over the connective tissue between screens, not just the screens themselves. Strong product judgment. You can set direction without a spec, understand priorities make the call on what to build and why, and defend it with reasoning rooted in the user, not in trends. A track record of working from the user's actual voice, translating real behavior and real confusion into design decisions rather than designing for an imagined ideal user. At least one experience at a Seed-stage or Series A company, where systems are still being built, priorities shift quickly, and speed matters more than perfection. How we work We are a small, high-trust team. We care deeply about the people we serve, but we are not precious about process. We move very quickly, communicate directly, and hold a high bar for the quality of the experience we deliver. The work here is highly collaborative. The best ideas often come from being close to the details: a family conversation, a product gap, an operational edge case, or a partner need. We expect people to take ownership of outcomes, pull in the right teammates, and turn what they learn into better systems for everyone. Location a
What the role involves
About The Role We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our engineering team and own major systems end to end. You'll work directly with our CTO and the founding team, meaning you get real ownership: you influence what to build, build it, and ship it. Why this role is different Estate settlement operates on messy, high-stakes data: legal, financial, and institutional records scattered across dozens of systems that were never built to talk to each other. We’re here to bring peace to families with product that feels accurate and automated. You'll build agentic systems and LLM pipelines where correctness truly matters, because the outputs carry real legal and financial weight. And you’ll build thoughtful product where nothing has existed before. Turning estate settlement into something a grieving family can actually trust, is a fundamentally human and deeply challenging engineering problem. If you've been craving interesting human-centric product and AI problems with real depth instead of building another SaaS app, this is it. What you'll build Solving hard problems: agentic asset and inventory processing, LLM-driven extraction with provenance and confidence, and entity resolution across messy, multi-source data. Make AI trustworthy while dealing with legal and financial stakes. Integrations with the outside world: banks, government systems, legal entities, and data aggregators, stitched into a single real-time view of a family's estate. Brand-new product: some of the most exciting work is still ahead, richer loss support for families, partner interfaces, and plenty more on the roadmap. You'll get to take ideas from zero to shipped and influence what we build next. New systems and foundations: the backend and data platforms behind financial assets, document intake, and real-time progress tracking. And end to end efficient systems designed with sound architecture, observability, and the standards that keep us shipping safely with sensitive data. What we're looking for 5+ years building and shipping production software, strong in Python and/or TypeScript Extra points if you're a generalist who likes wearing many hats, or a former founder who knows what it takes to build something from nothing Experience with LLM pipelines or AI agents, or the ability and appetite to ramp fast A strong bias for correctness and data integrity, especially with sensitive and regulated data High-conviction and low-ego: strong opinions held loosely, and you'd rather seek what’s right rather than win the argument Comfortable in fintech, legaltech, healthtech, or other similar categories is a bonus, as is experience with Postgres and data engineering Real systems-design range: you make sound architecture tradeoffs under ambiguity and own problems end to end How we work We are a small, high-trust team. We care deeply about the people we serve, but we are not precious about process. We move very quickly, communicate directly, and hold a high bar for the quality of the experience we deliver. We are not looking for performative intensity, but want to be upfront that there will be moments when families, partners, or internal priorities require responsiveness outside typical working hours. What the role involves
Elayne is hiring a Customer Operations Lead to own the post-loss family experience and harden the operating system behind it. This is a senior, hands-on, user-facing operations role for someone who can operate at the intersection of family experience, product operations, service design, legal and financial process mapping, and AI-enabled workflow automation. This is not a traditional customer success, account management, or support role. It is also not a back-office CS Ops role. You will work directly with families, understand where the experience is confusing or emotionally difficult, and translate those insights into workflows, service standards, product requirements, escalation paths, and automation opportunities that help Elayne scale. This role will report to the CEO and work closely with Growth, Product, Engineering, and external professional partners. Why this role matters Estate settlement is complicated, but it is not unknowable. Beneath the emotional complexity are patterns, rules, decision points, and recurring moments where users struggle. Elayne’s opportunity is to understand those patterns deeply enough to turn a confusing process into a guided, scalable system. This role sits at the center of that work. You will be close enough to users to understand what they actually need, and structured enough to translate those insights into workflows, service standards, escalation paths, product requirements, and automation opportunities. The goal is not to solve every case as a one-off. The goal is to identify the branches that matter, systematize the repeatable work, and make sure humans are present for the moments that require judgment, empathy, and trust. Done well, every family we support makes Elayne smarter, more consistent, and more capable of delivering care at scale. What you’ll build As Elayne’s Customer Operations Lead, you will turn the family experience into an operating model the company can trust, improve, and scale. 1. A service model families can rely on You will define how Elayne shows up for families across the estate settlement journey: what we explain, when we intervene, how we set expectations, and how we create confidence in moments that are confusing or high-stakes. 2. A decision architecture for complex workflows You will help break estate settlement into clearer branches, rules, handoffs, and escalation points, so the team is not reinventing the process case by case. The goal is to turn complexity into a system that is understandable for families and usable by the company. 3. A product feedback loop rooted in user feedback You will translate what happens with families into sharper product priorities: where the experience breaks down, where software should do more, where AI can reduce manual work, and where human touch still matters. 4. A customer operations function built for leverage Over time, you will build the foundation for the function itself: the standards, training, quality bar, metrics, and operating rhythms that allow Elayne to support more families without scaling headcount linearly or losing trust.
