What the role involves

Metriport is an open-source data intelligence platform that helps healthcare organizations access and exchange patient data in real-time. We integrate with all major US healthcare IT systems and tap into comprehensive medical data for 300+ million individuals.

We've found product-market fit with multi-million ARR, 100+ customers (including Amazon One Medical, Strive Health, Circle Medical, and Brightside Health), backing from top VCs, and years of runway. We're ready to scale. We're a tight-knit, high-performing team of mostly former founders (including two YC alumni). We're engineering-heavy, operate with minimal bureaucracy and high autonomy, and hire based on competence, not prestige. We push hard—founders work six days a week from our SF office—but give everyone freedom to craft their schedule. We measure output and we're committed to sustainable intensity.

About You

You're obsessed with automating repetitive tasks — your first instinct when you see a manual process is "how do I make this run by itself?" At Metriport, you'll own the internal tooling that keeps our company moving fast. You'll spot the friction, build the fix, and ship it — without waiting to be asked.

You're entrepreneurial-minded, with the drive to push work forward even when it's not anyone else's top priority.

You have strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable working directly with stakeholders across Eng, Ops, and business teams to understand their needs and translate them into working solutions.

You're a hacker at heart — you get excited about wiring together services that weren't built to talk to each other, and you know how to make it work securely and at scale.

You keep security top of mind. We work with sensitive healthcare data, and you treat that seriously — vetting third-party integrations, applying least-privilege thinking, and never cutting corners that could expose PHI.

You follow the AI tooling space closely and try to use it to solve real business problems, but you have the judgment to know what's appropriate for an enterprise context and what's a hard no.

You care about outcomes over elegance. A Slack bot that saves the Ops team an hour a day is worth more than a perfect abstraction nobody uses.

What You'll Be Doing

After ramping up on our internal tools and workflows, you'll own the systems that make our teams more efficient and more secure. Day to day, this looks like:

Automating cross functional processes: many of our internal processes are still manual and error prone; you'll work with non-engineering functions at Metriport to automate away their friction within the company

Building Automations End-to-End: Designing and shipping integrations between our internal and third-party systems — from scoping the requirement with a stakeholder, to deploying a working solution, to making sure it doesn't break quietly.

Improving Developer Experience and Onboarding: Automating local environment setup for new engineers, improving CICD speed, reducing the time-to-productive from hours to minutes.

Evaluating and Adopting New Tools: Researching integration platforms (Zapier, n8n, Make, etc.) and AI productivity tools, working with the Security team to assess their security posture, and rolling them out in a way that meets our compliance requirements.

Reporting: Automating recurring reports by pulling from AWS Athena, REST APIs, and other data sources — so the team gets accurate data without manual effort every month.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a software engineering, automation, or internal tools role — ideally at a startup where you wore multiple hats.
  • TypeScript proficiency: Our entire stack is TypeScript. You write clean, maintainable TS without hand-holding.
  • React proficiency: Our internal operations tool is React-based. You can build and extend UI components to surface new workflows.

About Metriport

Metriport provides real-time access to comprehensive medical data for 300M+ individuals across the US. Our open-source intelligence platform helps organizations access, analyze, and exchange patient data while integrating with all major healthcare IT systems. If you’ve been to doctors in the US, you may have encountered the problem: how does a healthcare provider get access to your up-to-date medical history to treat you properly? Reliance on archaic methods is still the norm: typically, you or your provider need to call the facilities where you’ve previously received treatment (assuming you remember them all), just to have them send your records via fax (yep, fax). This can take weeks, only then to have a provider sift through hundreds of pages of unstructured docs, just to figure out basic things like your active medication list, what conditions you may have, latest lab results, etc. This not only delays care—it can cause improper treatment, since the medical history is critical for informing treatment decisions. Metriport integrates fragmented medical data from thousands of sources—including both national and state/regional Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), ADTs, EHRs, pharmacies, and labs—through a single API connector. The platform then standardizes, deduplicates, and enriches this data to create a comprehensive longitudinal patient record, with AI-powered clinical summaries. Along with a rich understanding of patient health history, healthcare providers also get realtime updates about their patients' health through Metriport. This includes getting notified when a patient is discharged from the hospital, picks up their prescription from the pharmacy, or has a new lab result available. Through this data, care teams get insights across their patient population, helping with 30-day readmissions prediction, care gap closure, risk adjustment, and more. On top of all of this, Metriport enables healthcare organizations to share net-new clinical information back to all major healthcare IT systems, and to become interoperable with popular EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, athena, eClinicalWorks, and many more—forming an internet for healthcare data. Metriport improves both patient and provider lives at the point-of-care, supporting use cases such as medication adherence, transitions of care management, chart prep, and much more. If you want to do work that matters, get in touch with us today.
