Metriport is an open-source data intelligence platform that helps healthcare organizations access and exchange patient data in real-time. We integrate with all major US healthcare IT systems and tap into comprehensive medical data for 300+ million individuals.
We've found product-market fit with multi-million ARR, 100+ customers (including Amazon One Medical, Strive Health, Circle Medical, and Brightside Health), backing from top VCs, and years of runway. We're ready to scale. We're a tight-knit, high-performing team of mostly former founders (including two YC alumni). We're engineering-heavy, operate with minimal bureaucracy and high autonomy, and hire based on competence, not prestige. We push hard—founders work six days a week from our SF office—but give everyone freedom to craft their schedule. We measure output and we're committed to sustainable intensity.
The Role
As a Design Engineer at Metriport, you'll spend your time understanding customer workflows, designing the best solution to those problems, and implementing your own designs. If you're someone who is excited by broad ownership and making consequential decisions — while taking on work that others might consider way too much — you might be a good fit.

What You'll Do
Build and maintain the design system Establish a coherent design language — components, spacing, typography, color — that is simple.
Lead frontend implementation Set direction on the frontend, review implementation against design intent, and write production code where it matters most. You're strong enough in React to be the authority in the room.
Talk to, and advocate for, users Understand their workflows, form an opinionated view on the right solution, and drive toward it.
Solve data-dense UI problems Build interfaces that surface complex, high-volume medical data. Make hard layout and performance tradeoffs and know when good enough is correct and when it isn't.
Requirements
Design instincts: You produce Figma work that is considered and defensible — with clear opinions on typography, hierarchy, and interaction patterns.
Frontend fluency: You understand React well enough to lead implementation and run reviews — component architecture, rendering behavior, state management.
Pragmatism: You know what to polish and what to ship. You walk the tightrope between craft and speed without falling off either side.
The "Metriport" Mindset: Low ego, high ownership. You ask "Why can't this be done in 3 days?" instead of 3 weeks.

Metriport provides real-time access to comprehensive medical data for 300M+ individuals across the US. Our open-source intelligence platform helps organizations access, analyze, and exchange patient data while integrating with all major healthcare IT systems. If you’ve been to doctors in the US, you may have encountered the problem: how does a healthcare provider get access to your up-to-date medical history to treat you properly? Reliance on archaic methods is still the norm: typically, you or your provider need to call the facilities where you’ve previously received treatment (assuming you remember them all), just to have them send your records via fax (yep, fax). This can take weeks, only then to have a provider sift through hundreds of pages of unstructured docs, just to figure out basic things like your active medication list, what conditions you may have, latest lab results, etc. This not only delays care—it can cause improper treatment, since the medical history is critical for informing treatment decisions. Metriport integrates fragmented medical data from thousands of sources—including both national and state/regional Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), ADTs, EHRs, pharmacies, and labs—through a single API connector. The platform then standardizes, deduplicates, and enriches this data to create a comprehensive longitudinal patient record, with AI-powered clinical summaries. Along with a rich understanding of patient health history, healthcare providers also get realtime updates about their patients' health through Metriport. This includes getting notified when a patient is discharged from the hospital, picks up their prescription from the pharmacy, or has a new lab result available. Through this data, care teams get insights across their patient population, helping with 30-day readmissions prediction, care gap closure, risk adjustment, and more.
