Chief of Staff / BizOps Lead
Toronto, Ontario, CA / Toronto, ON, CAFull-time3+ years$140K - $180K CADVisa: US citizen/visa only
What the role involves

About Bree Bree builds better, faster, cheaper financial services for the half of Canadians living paycheck to paycheck. YC S21, $2M seed, profitable, growing double digits month over month. Team of <20, ~80% engineers, no red tape or politics. We move fast because we have to — and because it's more fun that way. Why this role exists Our engineering team ships. Our growth engine works. What we don't have yet is the connective tissue between vision and execution. You'll be the operating system between strategy and delivery — working directly with the founders to run the OKR cadence, write the briefings that compress a leadership decision from five days to five minutes, kill the meetings that don't earn their seat, automate the reports nobody should be running by hand, and quietly own the projects no one else has time for. This is the role for someone who left consulting or banking because they wanted to build — not just write recommendations and hand them off. What you'll actually do Run the rhythm. Own OKR planning, weekly business reviews, and the quarterly cadence. Every person on the team should know what they're working on, why it matters, and how it ladders up to the number that matters most. If they don't, that's on you. Be the bridge. Engineering, growth, and operations don't always speak the same language. You translate. You unblock dependencies before they become blockers. You hold the line on priorities when "urgent" crowds out "important." Fix the systems, not the symptoms. When something breaks twice, you redesign it. When a recurring report takes four hours every Monday, you make it run itself. We don't want a process bureaucrat, we want someone who builds machines that don't need them. Be genuinely AI-native. We're an AI-native team and lean heavily on LLMs and agents: internally, in tooling, and to replace manual workflows wherever they slow us down. The right person already uses these tools as leverage in their daily work. Write the one-pager. Distill messy, multi-variable problems into something an exec can act on in three minutes. The "so what" matters more than the deck. Own the work without a home. Special projects, vendor negotiations, ad-hoc analysis, the post-mortem nobody wants to write — the in-between projects land with you. You take them from zero to one, then build the system that runs without you. Occasionally, you'll PM a feature when the moment calls for it. Live in the data. SQL is table stakes. You write your own queries. You reach for the data before the opinion. Who we're looking for 4+ years relevant experience: consulting, investment banking, high-growth startup BizOps/Strategy, or strategic finance. First-principles problem solver: You start with why - why the process exists, what the true constraints are, what's the simplest thing that could work - before jumping to how. You build before you ask permission. Obsessed with data. You don't make claims you can't quantify. You're suspicious of any decision that can be measured but isn't. Extreme attention to detail and highly organized. You re-prioritize constantly and context-switch without dropping things. Nothing slips through your system, because you've actually built one. Technically literate. You don't ship production code, but you read SQL fluently, hold your own with engineers on a tradeoff conversation, and understand technical constraints. Comfortable with ambiguity and speed. Unclear scope, shifting priorities, decisions made on incomplete information - that's the job. You don't wait for the org chart to catch up to the work. Very high agency. You don't need to be told twice, and you don't need permission to fix something obvious. If you spot a problem on Monday, it's a project plan by Tuesday. Genuinely wants to be challenged. You're here to grow and have real impact, not to coast. Growth mindset, takes feedback seriously, allergic to your own complacency. Concise, clear communicator. You use the minimum number of words to get a m

The Role We’re looking for Bree’s first Product Manager to steward our product through our next phase of growth. This is a hands-on role where you’ll drive outcomes end-to-end: identify the highest-leverage problems, translate them into crisp specs, ship quickly with engineering/design, and close the loop with measurement and iteration. Your job is to bring clarity and momentum: turn messy inputs (CX feedback, risk constraints, data, stakeholder requests) into a prioritized plan, then execute with high quality in a regulated, risk-sensitive environment. As our first PM, you’ll also help build our product operating system—how we intake feedback, prioritize, plan, execute, measure, and learn. This is a great role for someone who has shipped consumer product at speed, is extremely strong with data, and wants broader ownership across product strategy, execution, and cross-functional leadership. What You’ll Do Own a core product area (you’ll start with one clear surface area, then expand scope as we scale) Build and maintain a prioritized roadmap grounded in measurable impact Turn ambiguous problems into PRDs/specs that engineering and design can execute quickly Partner deeply with Engineering, Design, Analytics, Underwriting/Risk, CX, and Compliance Define success metrics for every initiative and ensure clean instrumentation before launch Run tight launch loops: ship → measure → learn → iterate (fast, disciplined, and data-driven) Improve internal execution: help establish cadence and artifacts (weekly execution, quarterly planning, post-launch reviews) What We're Looking For Extreme ownership: When a metric is off or a launch underperforms, you own it. You diagnose root cause, rally the right people, and drive to resolution—without waiting to be asked Communication range: You can align founders on a crisp tradeoff, write clear PRDs for engineers, and translate risk/compliance constraints into product decisions that CX can support Pragmatic judgment: You make decisions that balance user experience, risk/underwriting, ops cost, and engineering effort Customer orientation: Strong product intuition. You think about user impact, not just technical elegance Analytical rigor: You default to measurable goals, clean instrumentation, and post-launch readouts. Strategy & Operations Lead
Toronto, ON, CA / Toronto, Ontario, CA / Remote (Toronto, ON, CA; Toronto, Ontario, CA)Full-time1+ years$110K - $150K CADVisa: US citizen/visa only
What the role involves

About Bree Bree is a consumer finance platform that brings better, faster, and cheaper financial services to over half the Canadian population who live paycheck to paycheck. We were part of Y Combinator in 2021 and raised a $2M seed round shortly after. We are growing at a double-digit monthly rate and are profitable. Our culture is defined by high ownership, a bias for action, tenacious problem-solving, and striving to be 1% better every day. About the Role Bree is seeking a high-agency Strategy & Operations Lead to serve as the connective tissue between our high-level vision and technical execution. In a lean team of under 20 (80% of whom are engineers), you won't just be "managing process"—you will be building the operating system that allows us to scale. We are looking for a "force multiplier": someone who can wrangle complex OKRs, align cross-functional stakeholders, and fix systemic organizational friction. You are an expert at translating between business needs and technical realities, ensuring our talent is always focused on the highest-leverage work. Because we are a small team, this role will occasionally involve stepping in to lead ad-hoc product initiatives when needed. We are a team of low-ego do-ers; you should be as comfortable presenting a strategic roadmap to leadership as you are rolling up your sleeves to fix a broken workflow yourself. What You'll Do Strategic Alignment & OKRs: Own the rhythm of the business. You will lead the OKR planning process, ensuring that every engineer and team member knows exactly how their work ladders up to our North Star. Cross-Functional Orchestration: Act as the primary bridge between Engineering, Growth, and our operations. You’ll align stakeholders to resolve dependencies before they become bottlenecks and ensure seamless communication across a highly technical team. Organizational Architecture: Identify systemic "friction points" in how we work. You’ll design and implement the frameworks, tools, and processes that allow our talent to remain focused on shipping rather than navigating administrative debt. Leadership Visibility: Drive executive clarity by synthesizing messy operational data into high-signal briefings. You will provide the "so what" that allows leadership to make fast, confident decisions in a hyper-growth environment. Special Ops & Execution: Lead high-impact, ambiguous projects that don’t have a natural home—including stepping in as an ad-hoc product lead for new features or launches. You take projects from "zero to one" and then build the system to keep them running. Analytical Powerhouse: While you focus on strategy, you aren't afraid of the data. You will use SQL and automation tools to unblock initiatives, find efficiencies, and quantify the impact of our strategic trade-offs. What You'll Need 3+ years of experience in Strategy & Ops, BizOps, Management Consulting, or a high-growth startup environment. Technical Literacy: You aren't necessarily an engineer, but you speak their language. You understand how to work effectively with technical teams and can translate business requirements into technical constraints. Systemic Thinking: You don’t just fix the problem; you fix the system that caused the problem. High Agency / Low Ego: You are a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity. You take immense pride in the team’s success and believe that no task—no matter how small—is below you if it helps Bree win. Precision Communication: The ability to take complex, multi-variable problems and distill them into a one-pager that a busy executive or a focused engineer can act on immediately. Preferred: Proficiency in SQL and experience using AI/automation to replace manual workflows. Full-Time Employee Benefits Include: 💰Top of the market compensation for top performers ⚕️Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits plan 🖥 $1,500 annual learning & home-office stipend 🧘🏼 $1,000 annual wellness stipend 🍔 Monthly Lunch Stipend 🚗 Commuter Benefits 🚼Paid Parental leav

We were part of Y Combinator in 2021 and raised a $2M seed round shortly after. About the Role Bree is building a pragmatic, high-ownership engineering team that ships customer value quickly and calmly. We care less about perfect craft for its own sake and more about impact, reliability, and momentum. You’ll own features end-to-end across our Lambda-based backend and React Native apps. You’ll make smart assumptions when product specs are thin, be comfortable working around engineering tradeoffs, and iterate fast to get value in customers’ hands. You’ll pair a builder’s mindset with enough testing and observability to keep us moving without breaking things. What You'll Do Ship full-stack features end-to-end: product discovery, scoping, implementation, and release. Work across a TypeScript/Node serverless stack (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS) and React Native frontends. Make pragmatic calls in ambiguous situations; unblock yourself and others without waiting on perfect specs. Instrument what you ship (logging, metrics, alerts) and add tests to keep releases stable. Improve existing surfaces: refactor opportunistically, pay down tech debt without slowing delivery. Collaborate tightly with design and product on customer-visible outcomes, not theoretical elegance. What You'll Need Have real startup experience shipping product in lean environments. Have shipped things personally (side projects, OSS, indie apps) and can show a portfolio/GitHub. Are fluent in TypeScript and comfortable across Node, React/React Native, and REST/GraphQL APIs. Have worked with AWS serverless (Lambda/SQS) or equivalent event-driven systems. Use testing pragmatically (Jest, React Native Testing Library, Detox) and integrate into CI. Demonstrate product judgment: you can refine a rough idea into a scoped, high-leverage release. Communicate clearly, default to ownership, and stay even-keeled when wrestling with engineering tradeoffs. Nice to Have Experience with mobile release pipelines, over-the-air updates, and app store processes. Observability chops (e.g., structured logging, tracing, performance profiling). Comfort with analytics/experimentation (event models, simple A/Bs) to validate features. Contributions to OSS or public write-ups about projects you’ve shipped. Full-Time Employee Benefits Include: 💰Top of the market compensation for top performers ⚕️Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits plan 🖥 $1,500 annual learning & home-office stipend 🧘🏼 $1,000 annual wellness stipend 🍔 Monthly Lunch Stipend 🚗 Commuter Benefits 🚼Paid Parental leave 🏝20 annual PTO days + unlimited sick days 🚀 Quarterly Team Gatherings ☕ In Office Amenities
