What Human Archive does
We’re archiving the physical world for embodied intelligence by collecting and labeling aligned multimodal data. To build dexterous and perceptive robots that generalize robustly, we need massive amounts of real-world data across multiple modalities and environments. We have thought deeply about the fine line between biomimicry and its application to humanoid systems. Based on this research, we design and deploy custom hardware across residential and manufacturing settings. We then post-process the resulting data through internal QA, anonymization, and annotation pipelines to deliver diverse, high-fidelity datasets at scale to frontier labs developing robotics foundation models and general-purpose robotics companies. We believe we are at a historic inflection point, with a unique opportunity to leave a dent on humanity and reshape physical labor markets forever. That's why our team dropped out of Stanford and Berkeley and moved to Asia to collect the world’s largest annotated multimodal dataset.

About the Role The embedded/electrical engineer will design, validate, and harden the electrical and embedded hardware foundation of a battery-powered wearable platform — including power architecture, sensor integration, signal integrity, and full-system validation. You will work closely with the Head of Engineering, who defines system requirements and architecture. Responsibilities Design and validate a multi-rail battery-powered architecture, including power budgeting, DC/DC regulation, protection design, and load stability under peak compute and sensor load. Bring up and integrate an embedded compute platform (SoM or SBC), including high-speed sensor interfaces and storage subsystems. Integrate distributed sensors across physical segments, designing robust bus topologies and ensuring accurate time-stamping and data alignment. Validate signal integrity and grounding across harnessed interconnects; define connector standards and pinout documentation. Design system-level controls and indicators with reliable interrupt behavior. Lead full-system validation: EMI, transient response, power stability, environmental durability. Required Qualifications 3-7 years of experience in embedded systems or hardware integration. Demonstrated experience bringing up SoM or SBC platforms under real-world load. Strong understanding of battery-powered, multi-rail power systems and protection strategies. Hands-on experience integrating sensors over SPI, I2C, UART, USB, or similar interfaces. About the Role The firmware engineer will own the real-time firmware layer of a battery-powered wearable platform — responsible for deterministic sensor acquisition, timestamp alignment, system state control, and reliable communication between the microcontroller and embedded Linux compute. You will operate under technical direction from the Head of Engineering. Responsibilities Design and maintain firmware for a dedicated MCU responsible for aggregating distributed sensors — implementing robust SPI and peripheral drivers and ensuring stable high-frequency acquisition. Architect and implement the system timebase and synchronization strategy across multiple sensor domains, including deterministic event handling and timestamp propagation. Develop hardware-level control logic for user inputs and system indicators with interrupt-driven reliability. Design boot, shutdown, and fault-recovery mechanisms: watchdog strategies, brownout handling, corruption prevention during unexpected power events. Implement a deterministic communication boundary between MCU and the embedded Linux compute layer, including packet structures, buffering strategies, and error handling. Required Qualifications 3-6 years of embedded firmware development experience. Strong proficiency in C or C++ for MCU environments. Experience with STM32 or equivalent modern MCU platforms. The Opportunity The head of engineering will own the entire technical execution of a body-worn sensing platform — from architecture through shipping — while leading a distributed team of specialists across San Francisco and India. The head of engineering will make real design and integration decisions every week across all four core domains: power systems, sensor synchronization, firmware and embedded Linux, and mechanical structure. What You Will Own Define and maintain the complete hardware system architecture — mechanical, electrical, firmware, and multi-sensor integration — ensuring all subsystems integrate into a coherent, wearable product. Live in India, travel to SF regularly (roughly 1 week per month). Translate product requirements into precise engineering briefs. The the engineering team abroad should know exactly what to execute on. Strong communication skills and the ability to shape future engineering hires. You will have significant input into who joins this team. What You Must Have RELEVANT EXPERIENCES MUST BE BOLDED IN RESUME Power systems: You have personally designed a multi-rail battery-powered architecture — not reviewed someone else's. You can size a protection circuit, choose a regulator topology for a given load profile, and explain the inrush and brownout behavior you encountered on first power-on. You can read a schematic and find a problem. Sensor synchronization: You have solved the problem of aligning data from multiple sensors with mismatched sample rates and variable bus latencies. You know what a time-stamping strategy looks like at the firmware level, and you know what misalignment actually looks like in a captured dataset — not in theory, in your own data. Firmware and embedded Linux: You have personally brought up a SoM or SBC platform under real workload. You can read and follow firmware written by someone else well enough to identify a timing bug, interrupt priority issue, or buffer overrun using a logic analyzer or serial log. You do not need to write production firmware, but you must be able to debug it. Mechanical judgment: You will not own CAD in this role, but you must review, critique, and push back on mechanical designs with engineering justification. You understand load paths, tolerance stack-up, strain relief, and what "designed for the lab" looks like vs. designed for a person wearing it for eight hours. You have shipped at least one hardware product from first prototype to real users. About the Role This revolves around understanding the user — the visual language, ergonomic feel, and user-facing identity of our wearable hardware platform. You will work directly with the Head of Engineering and founding team in San Francisco. Responsibilities Develop and iterate on the visual and ergonomic design language of the wearable system — form, finish, material palette, and user interaction. Create high-quality concept sketches, 3D renderings, and physical models to communicate design intent to engineering and leadership. Collaborate with the mechanical engineer (India) to ensure design intent is preserved through the engineering and fabrication process. Contribute to user research and wear testing, translating real feedback into design refinements. Maintain a living design system — material specs, finish standards, CMF documentation — that guides vendor conversations and future iterations. Design packaging, unboxing experience, and product presentation materials as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent — recent graduates (2023-2025) strongly encouraged. About the Role This role is ideal for someone early in their career (1-5 years of experience, or an exceptional dropout) who wants real operational ownership, not a rotational apprenticeship. As a founding Operations Manager, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of field operations, including sourcing and structuring partnerships to unlock access to real-world labor environments, deploying and supporting field teams, and ensuring clean data offload, audit, and closure. About the Role The hardware test engineer will own quality and validation across the full hardware stack — electronics, firmware, and system integration. This role goes well beyond test execution: you will build the test infrastructure, author reliability plans, debug failure modes, and drive corrective action. You will receive direction from the Head of Engineering and work closely with the electrical and firmware engineers. Responsibilities Define test plans, matrices, and acceptance criteria aligned with product requirements; build and maintain verification checklists for electrical, firmware, and system-level functionality.
